Saudi trade surplus with Japan reaches SAR 9.23bn in May

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia's trade surplus with Japan has surged 38.3%, reaching SAR 9.23 billion (JPY 272.68 billion) in May, compared to SAR 6.67 billion (JPY 197.21 billion) in the same period of 2017.

The kingdom’s exports to Japan increased 6% to SAR 911 million (JPY 26.93 billion) last month, from SAR 859 million (JPY 25.39 billion) in May 2017, data released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance’s (MoF) showed on Monday.

Saudi imports from the Eastern Asian country jumped 34.6% year-on-year to SAR 10.14 billion (JPY 299.61 billion) in May from SAR 7.53 billion (JPY 222.6 billion), the MoF added.

In 2017, Japan was the top destination for the kingdom’s exports which amounted to SAR 100.4 billion, against SAR 19.9 billion imports.
